Late last night I was scanning for TV programs when I chance upon the episode of the Che Che Lazaro Presents in ABS-CBN about the story of a very unusual love which is nice to share since today we all celebrate the Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day as we all know is the time of the year when we all want to share and express our love to our significant ones. This is also the day that motel and hotel owners are waiting for. But to be straight forward what does Valentine's day really means to you? Is it about the gift or the flowers or chocolates that you will receive? Is it about sex? Is it about spending time with your love ones?
Sadly the true meaning of this day was being diverted to something else. People today are more focused on other things like giving gifts, flowers or anything of value. Sex, sex and sex is another thing that is so popular during the Valentine's day. But what is the real meaning of this day?
Valentine's Day is all about love, love and only love. Unconditional love so to speak. It is the day that we should be reminding our selves that we just don't need love, we also need to share love.
Sharing unconditional love is so hard to do these days for rich people as well as ordinary people like you and me. Except during the election season when those politicians use charity to publicized their names, but it is not considered as unconditional love. That is Not the case with this very elite (and should I say very rich) couple in the name of Don Jaime Zobel De Ayala and Doña Bea Zobel De Ayala. The names are not common anymore hire in the Philippines. The Zobel De Ayala Family is one of the most influential and the most richest clan in the country.
The couple's story is very touching. I was very touched with the couple and honestly I really admire them. Their act of kindness, humility and love is very unusual nowadays specially to people with high social status in life.
It all began when the kind hearted Doña Bea Zobel De Ayala was able to met some members of the Mangyan Tribe in the mountains of Mindoro in the Philippines. Mrs. Zobel De Ayala saw their poor life and their poverty as well as their hardships in the mountain. She learned that these people don't even have access to basic services like education, health care, potable water source, employment, decent housing and even a usable public toilet which resulted to diseases and death specially to the younger ones. Those things led her to put up her projects for her Mangyan friends.
Little by little she started her work for the Mangyans. And with the help of and support of her equally good hearted husband, Jaime, they erected the first ever Medical clinic in that area as well as an elementary school for the children of the Mangyan tribe.
Mrs. Zobel De Ayala also started to share anything to the Mangyans anything that she has. From the smallest things like a pair of underwear to lending her own helicopter just to be able to save a single Mangyan life who was electrocuted while working in the mountain. Even if she's getting older, her age didn't stop her in fulfilling her calling. She mentioned that:
" How can I live in my own house when I can see that my neighbors are in poverty ". and
" Helping my Mangyan friends is my calling".
She also noticed the skills of the Mangyan in weaving baskets ( see am example of their handicraft Mangyan's Basket ). She then started buying baskets from the Mangyans to revive their traditional craft and gave advices to for the Mangyans to make a much smaller baskets to increase their marketability specially to foreign tourist.
Very recently the couple also started to establish a new village for the Mangyans at the foot of the Mountain which is much closer to both the medical clinic and the elementary school so that the people will have a much better living compared to what they have in the mountains. They also have out the first already completed 30 newly built houses to the first batch of recipients.
The dream of Mrs. Zobel De Ayala of lifting the lives of her Mangyan friends maybe impossible to some. But she showed that she can finish what she started. She Showed that nothing is impossible if you only have the guts to do it.
The couple simply did what other rich people can't do and that is to share what they have. Love is very magical. Love is very mysterious.
This story inspires me a lot. Their story is fantastic and you will not hear this story everyday. I salute them for doing such act of kindness.
To Mr. and Mrs. Jaime and Bea Zobel De Ayala, Kudos to both of you!
definitely you've earned my respect and admiration. Thank you for sharing your love. may you have more energy and determination to help many more people.
