In a flash, the reign of one of the greatest bantamweight fighters in the world ended in a very dramatic fashion when the former World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight champion, Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel (44W, 3L, 34KO) was knocked- downed by Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. (25W, 1L, 18KO) in the second round of their championship bout yesterday morning ( yesterday night in Las Vegas).
Donaire, a native of Talibon, Bohol in the Philipppines, showed his class and pounded Montiel from start to finish with beautiful shots and graceful footwork which disrupted the Mexican Fighter's game plan. Donaire dominated the fight and prevented Montiel give any kind of momentum at all. In that one-sided fight, it is very clear that Donaire is the much better fighter than Montiel and together with that edge as well as the combination of determination, patience and smart plays, the Mexican was not able to do any damase at all to Donaire. Speed and power is the key for the total domination of the Filipino fighter over the much experienced champion.
The fight was finally decided when Montiel was not able to fought back Donaire's barrage of punches after the Mexican suffered a devastating knock-out earlier in that fight. Donaire landed a solid left hook counter on Montiel's head sending the Mexican down like a hot potato, the same punch that knocked-out former champion Vic Darchinyan four years ago (also check the Donaire vs. Darchinyan Fight).
Donaire's boxing skills, smart plays and physical features enabled him to snatch the two titles from the hands of Montiel and because of that excellent performance of Donaire, many boxing experts are know saying that he will be the next Manny Pacquiao. And with his performance right now, definitely he his the only Filipino fighter that can match Pacquiao's legacy.Nonito Donaire Jr., he will definitely be the next Manny Pacqiuao.
Congratulations Nonito Donaire Jr.
