The EDSA people power also known as the EDSA revolution and the Philippine revolution of 1986 was a series of popular non-violent uprising of during the Marcos regime in 1986 which marked the restoration of democracy in this southeast Asian country. These protests were the culmination of a long campaign of civil resistance by the Filipino people against the authoritarian rule. Filipinos showed their unity to bring back their freedom by means of a bloodless coup. Because back then, many have experienced

hardship and oppression and the whole country is in chaos.

The resistance heated up due to the strings of events which eventually resulted in the withdrawal of support by some top brass in the government and lead to the downfall of the Marcos regime.

25 years have passed since the EDSA people power and the Filipino nation was able to restore it's freedom that it deserves. It also marked the Philippines as a very strong democratic nation in the world and we have learned so many things from the event. It taught us that unity goes hand in hand with democracy and we should always bear in mind that freedom is a precious gift to everyone and we should all respect it.

Things has changed now. We now enjoys the fruit of EDSA people power and our country is now moving forward to become a progressive nation. But the ghosts of the past is still hunting the Filipino people. It is sad to see that the diseases that plague our society 25 years ago is still in our system up to this day.

Corruption, human rights violation and poverty is still rampant in the Philippines and as time goes by we are forgetting what the  true lesson that the EDSA people power taught us. And That is unity and freedom. The EDSA people power is not just another historical event for the Philippines, it is a big reminder for every single Filipino that we can make a difference if we have unity and democracy and freedom comes with a great responsibility.

As we celebrated this very important milestone in our history every the 25th of February, let us all re-live the true spirit of EDSA in our hearts. That is the only way for us to achieve what the EDSA people power tried to give us.
