The EDSA people power also known as the EDSA revolution and the Philippine revolution of 1986 was a series of popular non-violent uprising of during the Marcos regime in 1986 which marked the restoration of democracy in this southeast Asian country. These protests were the culmination of a long campaign of civil resistance by the Filipino people against the authoritarian rule. Filipinos showed their unity to bring back their freedom by means of a bloodless coup. Because back then, many have experienced
hardship and oppression and the whole country is in chaos.

The resistance heated up due to the strings of events which eventually resulted in the withdrawal of support by some top brass in the government and lead to the downfall of the Marcos regime.

25 years have passed since the EDSA people power and the Filipino nation was able to restore it's freedom that it deserves. It also marked the Philippines as a very strong democratic nation in the world and we have learned so many things from the event. It taught us that unity goes hand in hand with democracy and we should always bear in mind that freedom is a precious gift to everyone and we should all respect it.

Things has changed now. We now enjoys the fruit of EDSA people power and our country is now moving forward to become a progressive nation. But the ghosts of the past is still hunting the Filipino people. It is sad to see that the diseases that plague our society 25 years ago is still in our system up to this day.

Corruption, human rights violation and poverty is still rampant in the Philippines and as time goes by we are forgetting what the  true lesson that the EDSA people power taught us. And That is unity and freedom. The EDSA people power is not just another historical event for the Philippines, it is a big reminder for every single Filipino that we can make a difference if we have unity and democracy and freedom comes with a great responsibility.

As we celebrated this very important milestone in our history every the 25th of February, let us all re-live the true spirit of EDSA in our hearts. That is the only way for us to achieve what the EDSA people power tried to give us.

In a flash, the reign of one of the greatest bantamweight fighters in the world ended in a very dramatic fashion when the former World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight champion, Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel (44W, 3L, 34KO) was knocked- downed by Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. (25W, 1L, 18KO) in the second round of their  championship bout yesterday morning ( yesterday night in Las Vegas).

Donaire, a native of Talibon, Bohol in the Philipppines, showed his class and pounded Montiel from start to finish with beautiful shots and graceful footwork which disrupted the Mexican Fighter's game plan. Donaire dominated the fight and prevented Montiel give any kind of momentum at all. In that one-sided fight, it is very clear that Donaire is the much better fighter than Montiel and together with that edge as well as the combination of determination, patience and smart plays, the Mexican was not able to do any damase at all to Donaire. Speed and power is the key for the total domination of the Filipino fighter over the much experienced champion.

The fight was finally decided when Montiel was not able to fought back Donaire's barrage of punches after the Mexican suffered a devastating knock-out earlier in that fight. Donaire landed a solid left hook counter on Montiel's head sending the Mexican down like a hot potato, the same punch that knocked-out  former champion Vic Darchinyan four years ago (also check the Donaire vs. Darchinyan Fight).

Donaire's boxing skills, smart plays and physical features enabled him to snatch the two titles from the hands of Montiel and because of that excellent performance of Donaire, many boxing experts are know saying that he will be the next  Manny Pacquiao. And with his performance right now, definitely he his the only Filipino fighter that can match Pacquiao's legacy.Nonito Donaire Jr., he will definitely be the next Manny Pacqiuao.

Congratulations Nonito Donaire Jr.

The Pride of the Filipino People.
The pride of the Philippines.

Many Filipinos today is somewhat having a very slight identity crisis. Many of them was being drawn away from their own identity. There are so many factors behind that. FacebookMcDonald'sm&m chocolatesJustin BieberIPad and so on and so forth.

But for the new generation of Filipinos, hold back. Don't despair. There are things that will let you check if you are a Filipino or not.

You are a Filipino if you are:

You are definitely a Filipino if you are eating Pandesal together with coffee during breakfast. This combination is a very Filipino trademark. Filipinos specially those who came from the middle up to the lower class enjoys this mainly because the pandesal bread is way much cheaper and more tasty compared to the usual American loaf bread.

  • Having 4 to 5 or even 6 meals per day.
Let's face it, Filipinos love to eat. Correct me if I'm wrong, we Filipinos is the only people in the world that besides the usual regular meals like breakfast, lunch and dinner we still have in between meals (or to us snack). We have mid-day, afternoon and even midnight snack.

  • Taking a bath twice or even thrice a day.
Body hygiene. This is one of the most notable trademark of Filipinos. We are very conscious with our physical appearance and hygiene. We are also the only people who takes a bath at least twice a day. Before and after of being outside of the house for the entire day. One of the reason behind that is that we don't want to be embarrassed in front of other people becuase of having putok ( body odor ).

  • A die hard fun of souvenirs.
This one, it is quite very funny trademark that we have. we love to travel but not all of the times we have the money spend for those trips. So when we have the opportunity to visit a place specially for the first time we really want to have a souvenir from a simple as a little rock from the beach up to the novelty items that the place is offering. For us, It makes the trip more memorable.

  • Having rice in every meal.
We are a rice eating nation and for us if we are only going to take a sandwich for lunch or dinner, we are not satisfied. For us a meal must always have a cooked rich. In fact even if we only have cooked rich and powdered chocolate is enough for us to be satisfied.

  • Riding a jeepney.
The king of the road. The sign of the Filipino pride. The one and only, our very own Jeepney. This is the most popular mass transport in the Philippines and the life of the Filipinos revolves around the jeepney. Day in and day out we are riding them in our daily journeys in life.

  • Texting while doing other things at the same time.
The Philippines is the texting capital of the world. And because of that we actually learned a new skill and that is texting while doing other things. We can send text messages while walking, eating, driving, cooking and many other things.

  • MagicSing or the videoke (karaoke with lyrics).
From birthdays to even just a little gathering, the videoke will never be left out. We love to sings. Yeas definitely that is correct and because of that we do enjoy videoke. In the Philippines alone, almost every Sundays, you will be seeing groups of people with the videoke machine and singing their hearts out.

  • Almost late in almost all your meetings.
We have sometimes a habit of overlooking our clock. This is mainly because of our MaƱana Habit. Many of us have this attitude which always make us late in our appointments.

  • Smiling and laughing our hearts out.
Last but not the least. This attitude of Filipinos a very remarkable. It let us handle everything that we will be facing. It also help us to cope with any situations in life. We are a very happy people and we are not hesitating to smile and laugh even on the toughest situations in life which makes us a very strong nation.

So are you able to mark it all out?

Well, if you're answer is yes to almost 90% of them then, congratulations.

You are a Filipino

Corruption......

My goodness! For the Nth time now, I've heard that word again and I'm sick of it.

Why is that some officials can't place their hands inside their pockets?

For the entire length of my existence, the government still can't disinfect their own ranks with this very contagious virus.

Why? It's simple. Because it is now part of our society.

How come? That's a good question. How come it is now part of our society when in fact the Philippines is the only dominant Catholic country in Asia and in relation we have a very high standard of morality.

If you are a Filipino, you can definitely agree to this.

Have you ever done an action, say like doing your share in the household chores so that you will have extra allowance or you've finished your classmate's homework becuase he promised you that he will treat you for lunch?

If your answer is yes. Then definitely you've already done a little corruption. Yes, That is correct.

Corruption in reality is an act when you are doing something to get something. A simple thing like someone will give you a candy for you to do his/her homework is considered as corruption.

And the Filipinos adapted very well to this kind of culture and unconsciously our society is now embracing corruption very freely. That is one of the factors behind why government can't destroy corruption in their system.

If we want to end corruption we must first change our habits and attitudes. we must learn to do things without any favors and erase the "padrino: (backer) mentality in our society. That is one of the way to really cure this disease.

In my point of view right now, It is still very far away for us yo be truly free from corruption. And with so many administrations passed by, all I can say is....

There's Nothing Changed.
